The End of The 30 Day Juice Challenge
I have completed the 30 Day Juice Challenge and wanted to give you my personal review.
It wasn’t hard and became routine so I give it a 10 on the easy scale. Let me add that I work from home so it is easy for me to prep and prepare juicing at my leisure. It would be much harder for a person who has a 9-5 job to prepare for juicing.
As far as taste, it is something you will get used to. It only took me a couple of times to look forward to the juice. I also flavored it up with apples and ginger. After that even kale is pretty yummy. Who would of thought?
I didn’t find the cost prohibitive. I buy lots of produce every week anyway so this wasn’t a new area for me. Previously to my juicing challenge I tried to get as much organic as possible so I was already on the right track.
My disappointment was with the weight loss which was only a couple of pounds even though I was using once a day juicing as a meal replacement and gave up sugar and gluten. I did lose a few pounds but not the 20 I was hoping for. (sigh)
I felt fine but never got the “I feel like I have the energy of a 20 year-old.” Nope! It didn’t happen. I would say my energy level only increase a tiny bit. That for me was my biggest disappointment.
The best benefit was my skin became flawless and glowed, so I at least looked better. I no longer craved sugar or processed carbs. My taste buds now desired a higher grade of eating.
So, what I learned:
I may have to juice 100% everyday to get the full benefits that Joe Cross brags about on Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead.
I am using the wrong juicer. I am using a cheap juice extractor and that doesn’t get the most juice out of the veggies and it heats the foods up destroying enzines and nutrients. See my post on Juicing vs. Blending.
Will I continue juicing? Yes, I will but not so dedicated. To complete my experiment, I am going to try juicing 100% for 7 days to see if I get WEIGHT LOSS and FANTASTIC ENERGY, but not right now. I need a break. I was doing Holy Juicing for Lent but I think I lost my followers who were doing it with me. Yes, it’s hard.
One thing I am sticking to is giving up white sugar and process foods. Yuck. And breads with
gluten. Bread just doesn’t agree with me anymore. Of course they are now putting all kinds of disgusting and dangerous chemicals in bread. All to keep it on the shelf longer and to make more money. No problem, there are tons of breads in the freezer section at the store that are gluten free and I have a great recipe for almond bread.
There you go. My review of the 30 Day Juicing Challenge.
Hey, First Day in The hardest!
Don’t worry, be happy. The first day is the hardest. Your brain will be screaming, “Where’s the sugar!” Just ignore the brain. Sugar is an addiction and with all addictions, this shall pass.
Gluten is another really nasty chemical and tough one to give up plus it is in everything. Have no fear…there are breads with no gluten. They are usually located in the freezer section in the grocery store.
Here is a recipe for gluten free bread that is easy to make:
Low Carb Almond Bread Recipe – Jorge Cruise
Almond Bread Recipe
3.5 cups Almond flour
1/4 cup melted butter
3 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 cup yogurt
Mix well. Spray pan with baking spray.
Put into loaf pan, bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Cool and enjoy.
As far as alcohol….ugh! What good ole alcohol does to your body. Terrible things.
Alcohol is a poison
Your body can only process one unit of alcohol an hour. Drink a lot in a short space of time and the amount of alcohol in the blood can stop the body from working properly.
It can:
- slow down your brain functions so you lose your sense of balance.
- irritate the stomach which causes vomiting and it stops your gag reflex from working properly – you can choke on, or inhale, your own vomit into your lungs.
- affect the nerves that control your breathing and heartbeat, it can stop both.
- dehydrate you, which can cause permanent brain damage.
- lower the body’s temperature, which can lead to hypothermia.
- lower your blood sugar levels, so you could suffer seizures.
Look out for the signs
It can be a very fine line. One minute your house guest is stupidly drunk, the next they’ve become dangerously intoxicated.
Being aware of the signs of alcohol poisoning is crucial, because if a person you care about is suffering from acute alcohol poisoning, they will be in no state to help themselves.
Look out for:
- Confusion
- Loss of coordination
- Vomiting
- Seizures
- Irregular or slow breathing (less than eight breaths a minute)
- Blue-tinged or pale skin
- Low body temperature (hypothermia)
- Stupor – when someone’s conscious but unresponsive
- Unconsciousness – passing out
Good luck on your first day. Feel free to write to me if you have questions. admin@slimhealthysexy.com

Day 23 – 30 Day Juicing Challenge
Tuesday, 3/04/2014
The juicing challenge continues and that means I am still making my vegetable/fruit combo juice in the morning. I didn’t let the company be an excuse to stop in fact, I think they found it entertaining. They were offered a sip and politely tried but no one wanted to join me in daily juicing. That’s okay. They did enjoy their cocktails every night but once you start juicing, cocktails doesn’t really sound like a good idea anymore. That’s okay too! We did go out few times for dinner and I ordered sparkling water every time.
I was standing in the kitchen with the gang when one friend look at me and said, “Your skin is glowing!” I am sure it is the juicing. Cleaning my body from the inside out! Did you know that women preparing for the Academy Awards will go on a juice fast two weeks before the Awards? Yes, and they will tell you it is to drop some weight, get a flat belly and to have a healthy glow. If it’s good enough for the Stars it’s good enough for me.
Today’s juice recipe:
- Spinach
- Celery
- Carrots
- Lemon
- Orange
Day 18 – 30 Day Juice Challenge
Thursday, Day 18 of the 30 Day Juice Challenge!
Hello and yes, I am still hanging in with the Juice Challenge. Believe when I say, no one is more surprised than I am. I am juicing everyday but I have been so busy that sometimes getting near the computer to blog about the juicing is the hard part. Yesterday, my hubby took the day off and we finally cleaned out the garage and was able to park our cars into again. We threw away a lot of junk and donated some to charity. I was so amazed
that I had to keep checking the garage to see if we had really pulled off the entire feat. Yup, cars side by side. Yea!!!!!
Sad new. The old Hamilton Beach extractor finally bit the bullet. The mesh basket developed a tear so I can no longer use. I was thinking of seeing if I could purchase a replacement part online but first I used the backup extractor I had purchased at a garage sale. WOW! It was way more efficient at getting out the juice from the veggies and fruit that I realized how inferior the Hamilton Beach was so I dumped it in the trash.
Company coming tonight for dinner and I plan on making lemon chicken and we have Key Lime Pie for dessert. I, of course, will eat sparingly.
Today’s recipe”
- Kale
- Celery
- Carrots
- Blueberries
- Apple
- Ginger
Day 18, done. Check!
Day 15 – 30 Day Juicing Challenge
Day 15: Monday, Feb. 24, 2014
Still going strong. My husband and I made a video of me juicing on Sunday, which was day 14. I will upload the video today. (Sorry, the video didn’t come out.) He, my hubby, tried a taste and while he wasn’t thrilled, he wasn’t disgusted either. It is a acquired taste and at first I was pretty turned-off but must admit that I look forward to my juice now. Today, I drove my mother back home after breakfast and stopped into my sister-in-law’s place where we cleaned a desk I sent over the day before that had been sitting in my garage. Then we went to the store to make a few copies; her for taxes and me for a real estate transaction. Then I stopped at the grocery store to grab a few items for dinner, for my mother’s disabled neighbor, and for my mother. Then I dropped off the supplies and went back home to fill out the paperwork for my next doctor’s visit to schedule my colonoscopy. Yes, I am on the every 3 – 5 years plan. Yuck, not looking forward to that.
But first I made a juice that contained spinach and watercress. Talk about a peppery zing from the watercress and I used a fruit that is a cross between and orange and a grapefruit called Cara Cara: The Power Orange. Tasted great!
Today’s recipe:
- Cara Cara
- Apple
- Spinach
- Watercress
- Celery
- Carrot
I am feeling a little more energy and my throat is not as sore, so I guess you would say that I am feeling better. Do I have the energy I had when I was at 25? Nope! To me everyday is still a struggle to get through. I look forward to bedtime when I know no one can bother me. Last night my husband was restless and kept tossing and turning. I got up and took an Ambien to help me get some shut eye. Had to do it. I was looking at the clock and it said 1:00 and I was still wide awake. Then when I got up this morning and turned on the news I saw that a Kennedy is on trial for driving drugged. That’s what they call it. Drugged driving. She claims that she took an Ambien in generic form instead of her Zynthroid; her thyroid medicine. I have done the exact same thing because they do look so much alike but I realized my mistake before getting in the car and I called work and said, I’ll see ya later. There was no way I could drive so I can see how that can happen. You are in your typical morning hurry and rushing out the door and you grab the wrong pill. I have since learned and keep the medicines far apart. One is in my kitchen cupboard and the other is now in my bathroom medicine chest.
As far as weight loss goes. nothing except a few pounds. I was listening to an interview the other day via a Chronic Fatigue website and the woman being interview said that she was not eating because she was so sick and she actually put on weight!!! The interviewer said that that was because of hormones. Hormones? Hmmmm, I’m going to go back to that website and see if I can email him and ask him what hormones he was referring to as far as the weight gain.
I do believe that once I get past the 30 days on this challenge I will do a 10 day complete juicing fast and see what results that produces. If you have been following my blogging, you know that on this 30 day challenge that I am only juicing once a day and eating sensible dinners and staying away from sugar.
It gets easier everyday.
Day 15 done. Check!
