Day 24 – 30 Day juicing Challenge
Wednesday- Day 24
Yesterday I ate some bad things. Well, bad for me. I ate panna cotta (cooked cream) with strawberries and cottage cheese.Today I was hungry because my body got a taste of SUGAR. I decided to fight back by juicing this morning and in the afternoon. I had an appointment with a local artist to see if she wanted me to be her social media manager. I was very impressed with her art and we hit it off so yes, I have a new client.
Embarrassing but she made lunch and put out a good spread on the dining room table. She had nacho chips with homemade guacamole and fresh cut fruit. I declined all because I was juicing today, 100 percent. I noticed that she had a ton of supplements on the counter and essential oils. Obviously she was concerned about health but were the corn chips GMO free? Were the peaches organic? Taking supplements is fine but what you are eating is also important. She also told me she just had a reverse osmosis water system put in and there was a man there repairing the system. She should test the water with a PH strip to see if it tests acid. I understand that reverse osmosis can create water that is high is PH.
Well anyway, by the time I got home just before 4:00 I was starving and I have lots to eat in the refrigerator but I have the will-power now to skip the junk and go directly to juicing.
Today’s recipe:
- Kale
- Ginger
- Carrots

Day 23 – 30 Day Juicing Challenge
Tuesday, 3/04/2014
The juicing challenge continues and that means I am still making my vegetable/fruit combo juice in the morning. I didn’t let the company be an excuse to stop in fact, I think they found it entertaining. They were offered a sip and politely tried but no one wanted to join me in daily juicing. That’s okay. They did enjoy their cocktails every night but once you start juicing, cocktails doesn’t really sound like a good idea anymore. That’s okay too! We did go out few times for dinner and I ordered sparkling water every time.
I was standing in the kitchen with the gang when one friend look at me and said, “Your skin is glowing!” I am sure it is the juicing. Cleaning my body from the inside out! Did you know that women preparing for the Academy Awards will go on a juice fast two weeks before the Awards? Yes, and they will tell you it is to drop some weight, get a flat belly and to have a healthy glow. If it’s good enough for the Stars it’s good enough for me.
Today’s juice recipe:
- Spinach
- Celery
- Carrots
- Lemon
- Orange
Day 21 – 30 Days Juice Challenge
Sunday, Day 21 of the 30 Days Juicing Challenge. Yea! I’m feeling great but sadly, weigh loss some thing like 1 pound. You have got to be kidding? I have whittled my calorie intake to a bare minimum and still the fat is clinging on me. I sure my Hashimoto’s Hypothyroidism plays a lot in the inability to lose weight. Dang. What to do?
What is Hashimoto’s Hypothyroidism? Hashimoto’s thyroiditis or chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis is an autoimmune disease in which the thyroid gland is attacked by a variety of cell- and antibody-mediated immune processes. It was the first disease to be recognized as an autoimmune disease It was first described by the Japanese specialist Hakaru Hashimoto in Germany in 1912.
So, am I hungry everyday? Nope. The juice I make everyday does a great job of filling me up and giving me energy to take on the day.
Juicing is a simple and straight-forward way of consuming a variety of fruits and vegetables in an efficient, enjoyable way. As easy as it is to do, a few tips and guides never hurt anyone.
Here are some articles to read through while waiting for your juicer to arrive!
Why Juice?
You’ve heard the rave reviews about juicing and you want to know what all the hullabaloo is about. Is it fact or fiction?
Well, there’s a little bit of both. We love juicing. But we know that it is not a panacea. Learn more about the benefits of juicing and how to use juicing for health, not harm.
You can also read about my personal juicing journey here.
Which Fruits & Vegetables Can I Juice?
The short answer is: “Pretty much alllll of them! The more, the merrier!”
The more nuanced, more accurate answer is: “You can juice most produce, but some fruits and vegetables are unjuiceable.”
Even among the fruits and vegetables that can be juiced, it’s helpful to know which parts of a fruit or vegetable can be juiced. You’ll be surprised to find that you can juice a lot of parts that you typically can’t eat – another huge benefit of juicing!
Oh, you might also want to know about which fruits and veggies have edible, juiceable peels and which don’t!
What’s the Difference Between Juicing & Blending?
Some juicers are blenders too and it makes a lot of sense since blending lets you fill in the (nutritional) gaps that juicing leaves out and vice versa.
Learn about the difference between juicing and blending here and how they complement each other!
What is the Best Juicer to Buy?
Speaking of juicers – and blenders – it’s important that you choose the best juicer for your needs. Before rushing off to buy a juicer, take a moment and read through the different types of juicers and how they measure up.
Although there are juicers that are widely considered to be top-of-the-line, the best juicer for you is simply the juicer that best suits your juicing needs. Find out the 5 questions you should know the answers to before buying a juicer!
It’s pretty much the same deal with blenders – go with the blender that’s best for you.
What Fruits & Veggies are the BEST to Juice?
It’s hard to say which fruits and vegetables are the BEST. We can only repeat 3 good rules of thumb to follow when juicing:
1. Organic > Non-Organic: Organic fruits and vegetables better. Duh, you say – but they’re expensive. We know, and you don’t have to buy all organic
2. Vegetables > Fruits: Fruits juices are yummy, but vegetable juices are healthier than fruit juices. We recommend juicing mostly veggies and adding a little fruit for taste.
2. Diversity > Routine: One of the biggest benefits of juicing is that it allows you to consume a variety of fresh produce. Take advantage of it to supply your body with nutrients from foods you normally wouldn’t eat instead of sticking to the usual suspects all the time!
That being said, there are some foods that are a MUST in juicing.
How Long Does Fresh Juice Last?
This is an excellent – and important – question. Fresh juice is best-est when consumed fresh – and that means within 20 minutes of juicing. Busy schedules, however, often demand juice storage.
Although juice is best fresh, you can store fresh juice – and keep a lot of their nutritional benefits intact for up to 2 days.

Day 18 – 30 Day Juice Challenge
Thursday, Day 18 of the 30 Day Juice Challenge!
Hello and yes, I am still hanging in with the Juice Challenge. Believe when I say, no one is more surprised than I am. I am juicing everyday but I have been so busy that sometimes getting near the computer to blog about the juicing is the hard part. Yesterday, my hubby took the day off and we finally cleaned out the garage and was able to park our cars into again. We threw away a lot of junk and donated some to charity. I was so amazed
that I had to keep checking the garage to see if we had really pulled off the entire feat. Yup, cars side by side. Yea!!!!!
Sad new. The old Hamilton Beach extractor finally bit the bullet. The mesh basket developed a tear so I can no longer use. I was thinking of seeing if I could purchase a replacement part online but first I used the backup extractor I had purchased at a garage sale. WOW! It was way more efficient at getting out the juice from the veggies and fruit that I realized how inferior the Hamilton Beach was so I dumped it in the trash.
Company coming tonight for dinner and I plan on making lemon chicken and we have Key Lime Pie for dessert. I, of course, will eat sparingly.
Today’s recipe”
- Kale
- Celery
- Carrots
- Blueberries
- Apple
- Ginger

Day 15 – 30 Day Juicing Challenge
Day 15: Monday, Feb. 24, 2014
Still going strong. My husband and I made a video of me juicing on Sunday, which was day 14. I will upload the video today. (Sorry, the video didn’t come out.) He, my hubby, tried a taste and while he wasn’t thrilled, he wasn’t disgusted either. It is a acquired taste and at first I was pretty turned-off but must admit that I look forward to my juice now. Today, I drove my mother back home after breakfast and stopped into my sister-in-law’s place where we cleaned a desk I sent over the day before that had been sitting in my garage. Then we went to the store to make a few copies; her for taxes and me for a real estate transaction. Then I stopped at the grocery store to grab a few items for dinner, for my mother’s disabled neighbor, and for my mother. Then I dropped off the supplies and went back home to fill out the paperwork for my next doctor’s visit to schedule my colonoscopy. Yes, I am on the every 3 – 5 years plan. Yuck, not looking forward to that.
But first I made a juice that contained spinach and watercress. Talk about a peppery zing from the watercress and I used a fruit that is a cross between and orange and a grapefruit called Cara Cara: The Power Orange. Tasted great!
Today’s recipe:
- Cara Cara
- Apple
- Spinach
- Watercress
- Celery
- Carrot
I am feeling a little more energy and my throat is not as sore, so I guess you would say that I am feeling better. Do I have the energy I had when I was at 25? Nope! To me everyday is still a struggle to get through. I look forward to bedtime when I know no one can bother me. Last night my husband was restless and kept tossing and turning. I got up and took an Ambien to help me get some shut eye. Had to do it. I was looking at the clock and it said 1:00 and I was still wide awake. Then when I got up this morning and turned on the news I saw that a Kennedy is on trial for driving drugged. That’s what they call it. Drugged driving. She claims that she took an Ambien in generic form instead of her Zynthroid; her thyroid medicine. I have done the exact same thing because they do look so much alike but I realized my mistake before getting in the car and I called work and said, I’ll see ya later. There was no way I could drive so I can see how that can happen. You are in your typical morning hurry and rushing out the door and you grab the wrong pill. I have since learned and keep the medicines far apart. One is in my kitchen cupboard and the other is now in my bathroom medicine chest.
As far as weight loss goes. nothing except a few pounds. I was listening to an interview the other day via a Chronic Fatigue website and the woman being interview said that she was not eating because she was so sick and she actually put on weight!!! The interviewer said that that was because of hormones. Hormones? Hmmmm, I’m going to go back to that website and see if I can email him and ask him what hormones he was referring to as far as the weight gain.
I do believe that once I get past the 30 days on this challenge I will do a 10 day complete juicing fast and see what results that produces. If you have been following my blogging, you know that on this 30 day challenge that I am only juicing once a day and eating sensible dinners and staying away from sugar.
It gets easier everyday.
